This Horizon Europe Cluster 5 topic funds improvements to existing battery recycling processes so they can handle mixed waste streams, including production scrap and different lithium chemistries. The stated goal is to meet the material recovery rates set by the EU Battery Regulation while cutting reliance on imported raw materials. The scope covers optimising hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes, plus digitalised pre-treatment and sorting technology. The budget is €9.4 million per project, with 2 projects expected, for €18.8 million in total. The expected outcome by project end is TRL 6 to 7.
