This Horizon Europe Cluster 4 topic funds pilot sites that cut the energy use of data centres processing AI workloads, through direct-to-chip cooling, new backup systems such as graphene batteries, and carbon-aware workload scheduling. The scope also requires reusing waste heat and integrating data centres into local energy planning. The pilot sites are meant to serve as a European reference for the data centre and cloud/edge industry. The budget is €9.0-10.0 million per project, with 4 projects expected, for €39 million in total. Projects are expected to start at TRL 6-7 and reach TRL 8 by the end.
